Vaccinations and Immunization

Medical-Assistants-BestOne of the huge benefits of living in this day and age is the availability of vaccines to protects you from diseases that could injure or kill you.

Here at Anchorage Medical & Surgical Clinic we stock a wide variety of vaccines, from the standard ones needed for people living in the United States to those necessary if you are planning to travel to other parts of the world. We’re one of the few places in Anchorage to stock the yellow fever vaccine.

Vaccines we have on hand:

Hepatitis A
Hepatitis B
Polio (IPV)
Pneumococcal 23 (pneumonia)
Pneumococcal 13 (pneumonia)
Pertussis (Whooping Cough)
Yellow Fever
Zoster (Shingles)

In addition we can order other vaccines and usually get them within a day. Examples include:
HPV (Human Papillomavirus)
MMR (Measles, Mumps and Rubella)

The word vaccine refers to the actual agent swallowed or injected into your body. The term vaccination refers to the process of getting the agent into your body, either by shot or by mouth. After your body reacts to the vaccine you become immune to the disease and you can say you have been immunized. However the general public often uses the terms vaccination and immunization interchangeably.
